In April, FineLine worked with Excela Health’s marketing and communications department to assist in producing photographs for their Healthy Habits projects.
About the Project
The following project description is quoted from Excela Health’s Facebook Page. Follow them on Facebook!
“Good health is habit forming. But those behaviors must be cultivated at an early age to ensure lasting results. As part of Excela Health’s ongoing community wellness initiatives, the health system is conducting an essay contest in nine Westmoreland County school districts to identify the healthy habits of middle schoolers and promote them publicly on billboards around the county.
The project targets ‘tweens’ because they are newly exploring their independence and their decision making abilities separate from parents and teachers. What they deem important as an adolescent can be life changing as it relates to their overall health and well-being, and we want to showcase those healthy habits to inspire our community and encourage widespread and long-term participation in these positive lifestyle choices.
Participating districts include Franklin Regional, Greater Latrobe, Greensburg Salem, Hempfield Area, Ligonier Valley, Jeannette, Mount Pleasant Area, Norwin and Penn-Trafford, because Excela already has billboards in those communities. Both the Westmoreland-Frick Hospital Foundaiton and the Latrobe Area Hospital Charitable Foundation funded the campaign. Excela is hopeful to gain more community support and add other school districts to the campaign in the future.
Students were asked to write a 400 word essay discussing a healthy habit they have adopted and how it was improved their life and the lives of others. Entries were judged by Excela Health and winners are being announced over the next three weeks during health education assemblies at the participating schools. The selected students will be pictured engaging in their healthy habit on billboards in their community during May.”
